原欧盟国家文化中心合作组织主席、德国歌德学院总部秘书长、柏林世界文化中心艺术总监。现为柏林国际文化政策学院高级研究员、上海戏剧学院荣誉教授。
多年从事国际文化艺术交流的克诺普博士，曾学习神学、宗教学、印度语言文化学、阿拉伯语文学、社会学和政治学。1974年开始了他在歌德学院的职业生涯。1974—1981曾担任孟买、科伦坡、雅加达、新加坡等地的歌德学院分院的文化交流负责人。1986—1991担任歌德学院总部文化交流负责人。1991-1996担任芝加哥歌德学院院长。1996-2005担任柏林世界文化中心艺术总监。2005-2012担任德国歌德学院总部秘书长。2009上海戏剧学院授予荣誉教授，现为柏林国际文化政策学院高级研究员
从1996年以来，克诺普先生主持策划举办了多项有世界影响的文化项目如：
1996 《中国当代艺术展》；
1997 《其它现代性》，《神的祭坛》
1998 韩国当代艺术，加勒比艺术节；
1999 《我的家是我的艺术》、《马格里布》
2000 《柏林香港当代艺术节》、《马什雷克》黎巴嫩、埃及、叙利亚当代艺术展；2001 《黑色大西洋》非洲移民艺术；
2004《传递中》 国际表演艺术节，中亚艺术节，《墨西哥艺术》 当代墨西哥艺术节；
2005年—2006 《文化记忆——在过去与未来之间的中国》《文化之杯》与巴西艺术家的跨界、大型艺术节。《校园天才》与柏林国际电影节合作的专为亚洲、非洲、南美青年电影人的电影艺术节。《交综》 国际媒介艺术节，当代艺术的跨界艺术节，与伊朗艺术家，东南亚艺术节等。曾主编出版了一系列当代艺术家访谈书籍，如《中国当代艺术家访谈》、《墨西哥当代艺术家访谈》等。

Former Chairman of the EU National Cultural Centre Cooperation Organization, the Secretary General of the German Goethe Institute, the artistic director of the Berlin World Cultural Center. Now for the Berlin International Cultural Policy Institute Senior Fellow, Honorary Professor of the Shanghai Theatre Academy.
Knop Dr. for many years engaged in international cultural exchanges, he studied theology, religion, language and culture of India University, Arabic literature, sociology and political science. In 1974, began his career at the Goethe Institute. 1974-1981 served as the person in charge of cultural exchange of the Goethe Institute in Bombay, Colombo, Jakarta, Singapore Branch. 1986-1991 as the person in charge of the Goethe Institute Headquarters cultural exchange. 1991-1996 served as president of the Goethe Institute in Chicago. 1996-2005 served as the artistic director of the Berlin World Cultural Center. 2005-2012 served as Secretary-General of the German Goethe Institute Headquarters. 2009 Shanghai Theatre Academy awarded an honorary professor, now for the Berlin International Cultural Policy Institute Senior Fellow
Since 1996, Mr. Knop presided over the planning organized a number of world influence cultural projects, such as:
