在德拉夫恩 44年的艺术生涯里,他导演了74部戏剧作品,并曾被授予著名的迈尔奖以表彰他对表演艺术的杰出贡献以及由澳大利亚艺术委员会同墨尔本Asialink大学授予的研究会会员一职,研究亚洲传统与现代艺术之关联。
德拉夫恩最初的职业是一名中学体育老师和一名专业足球运动员。1973年至1982年在社区剧场的工作经历,开启了他的职业戏剧生涯。他与众多的主流剧团(墨尔本剧匣子1986/1990、贝尔沃街剧团1988、南澳洲剧团1988)有过合作,但是他的工作重心仍是放在独立实验戏剧、戏剧研究以及导表演训练上。同时,他还是米尔社团剧团成员(1980-1982)、澳大利亚当代戏剧剧团成员(1984-1987)、Whistling in the Theatre剧团成员(1987-1989)、墨尔本戏剧工作中心艺术总监(1990-1995)、Calculated Risks歌剧团联合总监(1997-1998)。他的作品曾经参与过墨尔本国际艺术节(1993)、堪培拉戏剧节(1991)、日本名古屋世界公园艺术节(1995)、在新加坡滨海艺术中心举办的Sparks艺术节(2004)、布里斯班艺术节(1998)、Melbourne Fringe艺术节(1994)、Adelaide Fringe 艺术节(1989/2000)以及卡斯尔梅恩戏剧节(1996)。
他的改编剧本作品有:《一千零一夜》(2008印度尼西亚译文版)、《一千零一夜》(2009)、热内的《监狱》(由《严加监视》改编)、《夏日的微笑》(2004,根据伯格曼同名电影改编)、《绫鼓》(2006)、《翠塔婆小町》(根据世阿弥的文章,由三岛由纪夫导演的话剧改编)、《阳台》(2002,根据热内剧本改编)、《白痴》(1992,根据陀思妥耶夫斯基小说改编)以及《一千零一夜》(根据《阿拉伯之夜》的法语版改编)。德拉夫恩的音乐剧改编作品包括:《最后的晚餐》(1994,与Richard Vella合作),以及三部根据威尔第歌剧改编的歌剧:《弄臣》(1994)、《奥泰罗》(1996)、《法尔斯塔夫》(1998)。
罗伯特·德拉夫恩曾经在墨尔本大学、莫纳什大学、拉特罗布大学以及迪肯大学任教。1996年至2000年,任教于澳大利亚维多利亚艺术大学表演系。2001年至2003年与郭宝昆一同创办新加坡戏剧表演研究项目。在2006年、2007年、2009年、2010年、2011年、2012年和2013年,德拉夫恩多次作为客座教授来到上海戏剧学院。他目前定期在澳大利亚维多利亚艺术大学戏剧系和澳大利亚文化合作中心授课。在2007年,他为澳大利亚音乐学院设计了一个新的表演学学位。目前,他正在参与设计墨尔本大学维多利亚艺术学院的导演学和剧作学的硕士学位。
德拉夫恩也有着丰富的获奖经历。在2010年,为表彰他对表演艺术的杰出贡献,他被授予迈尔奖。在2009年,《一千零一夜》 成为印度尼西亚Tempo杂志评选出的最佳舞台剧。在2006年,他获得了Aisalink 学者荣誉并赴中国研究戏剧。同年,澳大利亚艺术委员会授予他三年委员成员,负责研究亚洲传统艺术与现代艺术之关联。在2000年,德拉夫恩还被墨尔本大学授予优秀教学奖。在1994年,他的导演作品《弄臣》 荣获了The Age最佳独立戏剧作平。
在2007年,德拉夫恩在香港OnandOn剧团开展了为期四周的表演工作坊。在2008年,与香港进剧场一同创作并导演了一部有关日本鬼魂的舞台剧。在此之后,他受邀来到上海戏剧学院研究中国太极与表演训练的关系。他还与台湾原住民有过合作。德拉夫恩还分别于2009年、2010年、2011年、2012年在雅加达艺术宫指导表演工作坊。目前,他还担任墨尔本大学硕士研究生社区与文化专业的设计和组织工作,同时担任墨尔本大学戏剧学院的客座教授,并在墨尔本大学文化合作中心同Margie Mackay 一同教授仪式与表演的课程。
目前,他正在印度尼西亚与Teater Populer和SlametRahardjo Djarot一同创作新剧《俄狄浦斯的灵魂:未来之目》。

Robert Draffin has a body of artistic work spanning 44 years. He has directed 74 theatre productions. He is a recipient of the prestigious Myer Medallion (Outstanding services for the Performing Arts) and has received a 3 year Fellowship from The Australia Council of the Arts and Asialink residency to research the interchange between traditional and Contemporary Arts Practice in Asia. Originally a Secondary school Physical education teacher and professional footballer he found his way into Community Theatre 1973-1982. Since worked with mainstream theatre companies (Playbox Theatre Melbourne 1986/1990, Belvoir Street 1988, South Australian Theatre Company 1988,), but primarily he works in alternative and experimental theatre, focusing on theatre research and training practices. Member with the Mill Community Theatre Company from 1980-82, Australian Contemporary Theatre Company (The Church) from 1984-87. Worked with Whistling in the Theatre 87- 89. Artistic Director of Theatreworks (Melbourne) from 1990-95 and Associate Director of Calculated Risks Opera Company 1997-98. Festivals where his work have appeared: Melbourne International Festival 1993, Canberra Australian Theatre Festival 1991, Nagoya World Park Festival 1995 (Japan), Sparks Festival 2004 (Esplanade Festival Centre Singapore), Brisbane Arts Festival 1998, Melbourne Fringe 1994, Adelaide Fringe 1989/2000 and Castlemaine Theatre Festival 1996
Adaptations he has undertaken include: “Kisah Seribu Satu Malam” 2009, 1001 Malam 2008 (Translated into Indonesian), Genet’s Prison 2005 (from Genet’s Death Watch), Smiles of a Summer Night 2004 (from the Bergman film of the same name), Damask Drum 2006 & Sotoba Komachi 2004 (from Yukio Mishima’s contemporary NOH plays and Zeami’s text), Le Balcon, La experimentation 2002 (from Genet’s The Balcony), The Idiot (from Dostoyevsky’s Idiot) 1992, and 1001 Nights 1990 (from French translation of this classic 4 volumes Arabian Nights). Musical adaptations include Last Supper (with Richard Vella) 1994, and adaptations of three Verdi operas Rigoletto: a perversion 1994 (Rigoletto), Otello: a subversion (Otello) 1996, and Bodysongs: the Fatman Tour (Falstaff) 1998.
Teaching. Robert has taught acting at Melbourne University, Monash University, Latrobe University, Deakin University In 1996 -2000 he was Lecturer In Acting at the School of Drama at the Victorian College of the Arts Australia. In 2001- 2003 he was a founding teacher and taught acting with Kuo Pao Kun at Theatre Training Research Program in Singapore. In 2006/7/9/10/11/12/13 Draffin has taught sessionally at the Shanghai Theatre Academy - China. He has continued to work on a sessional basis with the VCA in School of Drama and the Centre for Cultural Community Partnerships. In 2007 he designed and wrote a new Performing Arts Degree for the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney. Currently co writing a Masters in Directing fpr Performance & masters in Dramaturgy VCA Melbourne University.
Awards. 2010 he was awarded the Kenneth Myer Medallion for contributing outstanding and distinguished services to the Performing Arts. In 2009 “Kisah Seribu Satu Malam” won Best Theatre Production in Indonesia Tempo Magazine. In 2006 awarded an Asialink Residency to work in China. Also in the same year he was awarded the prestigious three-year Australian Council for the Arts Fellowship to research the interface of tradition and contemporary Arts Practice in Asia. In 2000 Draffin received Melbourne University Teaching Excellence Award. In 1994 awarded The Age best independent theatre production for “Rigoletto: a perversion”.
Cultural Exchange In 2007 he conducted a four-week acting workshop with OnandOn Theatre Hong Kong. In 2008 he co-wrote and directed a Japanese Ghost story with Theatre Du Pif Hong Kong, continued researching at Shanghai Theatre Academy the relationship of Tai’chi with actor training, and worked with the Aboriginal tribe Amis in Taiwan. He ran acting workshops with Institut Kesenian Jakarta 2009/10/11/ &12. He has written and now convenes the course Post Graduate Certificate in Community & Cultural Engagement with Melbourne University and is a sessional lecturer at the Drama school (Lecturer in Directing) & the Centre for Cultural Partnerships Melbourne University (Ritual and Performance with Margie Mackay). He is currently creating a production “The Spirit of Oedipus: Eyes of the Future “ with Teater Populer and Slamet Rahardjo Djarot in Indonesia.
